【Abstract】 A N-heterocyclic spiro-thiophene derivative was developed for detecting copper ion by using UV-visible absorption spectra.The color changed from colorless to blue when copper ion was added into the acetonitrile solution of compound 1.Thus,compound 1 can be used as a colorimetric sensor for copper ion.Compound 1 has good response and selectivity to copper ion in the presence of other relative metal ions.The absorbance at 629 nm of compound 1 increased with increasing concentration of copper ion.We deduced that the absorption change of compound 1 was caused by the formation of complex through the combination of the nitrogen or sulfur atom with the copper ion.
