【Abstract】 Chemico-mineralogical compositions and some ceramic technical properties of tonstein in Permo-Carboniferous coal seams of Shanxi and Inner Mongolia have been investigated. The experimental result shows that tonstein is a sort of quite pure kaolinitic clay with its chemical composition being similar to that of the refined kaolin.Its fundamental technological properties are:high whiteness after being sintered;the amount of mullite in the sintered tonstein being approximately equal to the mullite content of sintered pure kaolinitic clay;low coefficient of thermal expansion and high thermal stability;fairly good high temperature-resistance and fine stuctural strength at room or high temperature.It is an excellent material for manufacturing high quality ceramic products and can also be used as refractory material in making crucibles for melting optical glass.Asa new kind of moulding material which has a bright future in casting industry,it will be bound to replace fused corundum.更多还原
