【Abstract】 Records of the Grand Historian by Burton Watson played a significant role in introducing Sima Qian and his masterpiece as a literary work to the western general readership by being fluent, natural and highly readable. This paper analyzes the readability of his translation and the ideological background of such an approach. Such research will be significant to the understanding of the appropriateness of strategies to be adopted in translating historical classics into English and the nature of translation as well.更多还原
