【Abstract】 Nanostructured MnO2 materials of different morphologies and crystallographic types have been selectively prepared through various solution-based chemistry routes. Electrochemical investigations indicate that the obtained MnO2 nanomaterials such as γ- and α-MnO2 tubes/wires/rods exhibit prominently enhanced performances as active cathode materials in the lab-made alkaline Zn-MnO2 cells and rechargeable Li-MnO2 cells, compared to their bulk counterparts of commercial powders. The improved capacity and high-rate capability is proposed to arise from the small particle size and peculiar one-dimensional morphology of MnO2 nanostructures.
