【副题名】《慈悲街》（1-4章）翻译实践报告

【摘要】 本翻译报告的源文本节选自美国当代女作家珍妮弗·海格的社会问题小说《慈悲街》。该小说于2022年2月1日出版,以寒冬中的波士顿为背景,讲述了一名医疗援助咨询师克劳迪娅在慈悲街帮助女性堕胎的故事。《慈悲街》运用多种修辞手法,刻画了美国社会对女性生育权的两极态度,展现了女性在美国当下社会所遭受的不公,揭露了性污名化、性教育缺失、缺爱教育等社会问题所导致的危害,具有较高的社会价值和文学价值。本翻译项目以纽马克的交际翻译理论为指导,选取翻译实践中的典型案例进行分析,总结社会问题小说汉译的翻译方法和技巧。本翻译项目能让读者从译文中了解美国社会中反堕胎人士的立场与行为方式,感受性污名化以及性骚扰给女性带来的伤害,促进国内读者关注女性生育自由权、女性权益保护和性教育等相关话题。基于本次翻译实践,译者发现艾克西拉文化专有项翻译策略能有效地解决社会问题小说中物质文化、社会文化和宗教文化专有名词翻译的难题;在句法和语篇层面,明晰化的翻译方法以及分译、合译、增译和转换等翻译技巧能巧妙地传递原文的意蕴,让译文通达顺畅;在风格层面,明晰化的翻译方法能较好地传递社会问题小说的讽刺效果,同时,模仿原文修辞特点和善用四字格的翻译技巧也能很好地保留小说中的文雅特色。在本次翻译实践中,译者通过学习纽马克交际翻译理论和艾克西拉文化专有项翻译策略,有效地锻炼了翻译文学文本的能力,并在一定程度上为社会问题小说的汉译提供了借鉴。更多还原

【Abstract】 The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from Mercy Street,a social problem novel by contemporary American female writer Jennifer Haigh.This book was published on Feb 1^st,2022.Set in a frigid winter in Boston,the novel tells the story of Claudia,an access counselor,who helps women get abortions at a clinic called Mercy Street.The novel depicts two polarized social attitudes toward women’s reproductive rights,reveals the unfair treatment women in the US still suffer in recent days,and exposes the harm caused by sex stigmatization,love-deprived education and lack of sex education.Teeming with hot social issues and various rhetorical devices,the book shines with thought-provoking insights and literary lustre.This translation project aims to generate proper translation techniques and methods to do E-C translation of social problem novels by analyzing typical cases in the translation practice under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory.By way of this translation project,the target readers can have a general understanding of the stand and subsequent conducts of anti-abortion supporters in the United States,and feel women’s pain caused by sex stigmatization and sex molestation,accordingly engaging domestic readers’attention to women’s reproductive rights,women’s protection and sex education.Based on the translation practice,the translator finds that Aixela’s translation methods of translating culture-specific items can effectively deal with difficulties revolving on material,social and religious cultural terms.Besides,at the syntactic and textual level,translation methods like explication,and translation techniques like division,combination,addition and shift,can delicately transfer meanings of the source text and meanwhile make the translation smooth and expressive.Furthermore,at the stylistic level,explication can effectively recreate irony employed in social problem novels,and imitation of rhetorical devices and application of four-character phrases can fairly maintain its elegance.Throughout the translation practice,the translator has comprehensively learned Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory and Aixela’s translation methods on culture-specific items,and honed her ability to translate literary works,and to some extent provided some references for E-C translation of social problem novels.更多还原
