【副题名】从及物性系统析戈尔丁的《蝇王》

【摘要】 戈尔丁的小说《蝇王》引起了各个批评流派的关注,本文试采用韩礼德(Halliday)系统功能语法中的及物性系统作为文体分析模式,在前人研究的基础上对小说中理性与野性的交锋进行探讨。本文共分为四章。第一章主要介绍及物性系统。及物性系统是系统功能语法的系统之一,其作用是把人们在现实世界中的所见所闻、所作所为分成若干种“过程”。韩礼德认为,可以通过及物性系统把人类的经验分成六种不同的过程：物质过程、心理过程、关系过程、行为过程、言语过程和存在过程。第二章主要对蝇王与西蒙之间的冲突进行及物性分析,西蒙在蝇王面前的恐慌与昏厥表明天性善良在野蛮天性前的无能为力；第三章对贯穿小说始终的杰克与拉尔夫之间的较量进行及物性分析,拉尔夫对杰克的失败充分显示社会文明在野蛮天性前的苍白脆弱；第四章主要对小说中的主要人物拉尔夫和杰克在野性与理性冲突下发生的变化进行及物性分析,这些变化显示了野蛮天性破坏力的巨大及难以控制。本文运用及物性系统分析旨在说明：野蛮天性蛰居大部分人的内心,人心中恶的力量是强大的,难以控制和抗拒；人类的理性力量是微弱的,在人失去道德约束时,理性敌不过野性,善敌不过恶；当人听从本能驱使时,人类和动物的区别就越来越少,人身上的兽性就会暴露无遗,行为也将具有极大的毁灭性。更多还原

【Abstract】 Many critics have analyzed Golding’s Lord of the Flies from various points of view. This thesis attempts to use Transitivity System of Systemic-Functional Grammar of M. A. K. Halliday as the stylistic mode to study the confliction between civilization and savagery in the novel on the basis of the predecessors’investigations.This paper comprises 4 parts. Chapter 1 is about Transitivity System. Transitivity System is one system in the Systemic-Functional Grammar developed by M.A.K Halliday. The function of Transitivity System is to divide all the seeing and doing in the real world into several processes, that is, material process, mental process, relational process, behavioral process, verbal process and existential process. Chapter 2 mainly explores the conflicts between Lord of the Flies and Simon. Simon’s terror and swoon before Lord of the Flies illustrate that natural goodness is defeated by instincts of savagery. Chapter 3 mainly studies the conflicts between Jack and Ralph. Ralph’s failure against Jack indicates social civilization is defeated by instincts of savagery. Chapter 4 mainly discusses the changes of the main characters under conflicts. These changes directly show the influence and destruction of savagery is huge and hard to control. All these analyses are woven into a general theme: civilization is defeated by savagery. Through the analysis of the language, this thesis aims to show instinct of savagery lurks in the deep heart of most people, it is hard to escape and control; the power of civilization is weak, when people are out of moral control and driven freely by instinct, civilization and goodness are to be defeated by instincts of savagery; when driven by instincts of savagery, the differences between human being and animal become less and less.更多还原
