超高层工业建筑中“机械-自然-城市-人”多尺度复合设计研究——以日立电梯试验塔“H1 TOWER”为例
A Study of the "Mechanical, Natural, Urban, Human" Multi-Scale Composite Design for the Super High-Rise Industrial Buildings: Taking the Hitachi Elevator Test Tower "H1 TOWER" as an Example
【Abstract】 Due to the special function and scale of industrial buildings, relevant studies usually focus on structural equipment technology. Driven by technological innovation and urban development, contemporary industrial building design has entered a new development stage with diversified types, high technology, urban landscape, and humanized use. In this paper, Hitachi Elevator’s 288.8m high "H1 TOWER" is used as an example to sort out the different requirements of the new industrial building of high-speed elevator test towers from mechanical, natural, urban, and human perspectives. It analyzes the integration of artistic conception and technical solutions in the plan composition, building outline, wind cavity and fa?ade, and exterior wall details, summarizing and comparing with similar buildings as follows:(1) The "mechanical" scale is an inherent characteristic and decisive factor of industrial buildings, and the demand for innovation-oriented research and development(R&D) will trigger new building forms. Through the cross-shaped plan composition, "H1 TOWER" greatly increases the service interface of operation space to the test shaft in the same area, which not only meets the requirements for compact arrangement and efficient operation of equipment for an R&D-oriented elevator test but also ensures the flexibility of local adjustment in deepening the design.(2) The "natural" force is the extraordinary conditions brought by the unique "mechanical" scale of industrial buildings. For the wind load that needs to be dealt with in buildings with large aspect ratios, "H1 TOWER" has realized the unification of aspect ratio adjustment and cross-shaped plan composition, the unification of the size and location of four-way wind cavities and fa?ade modulus, and the unification of lateral force resistant vertical elements and plan concave angle treatment with the detailed design of exterior wall surface through close cooperation between architects and structural experts. This cooperation has transformed the structural solution for wind load into a new opportunity for the overall composition and design of test towers and achieved a high degree of integration between architectural and structural design.(3) The "urban" scale is a unique issue for contemporary suburban residential and industrial mixed-use areas in China. The towering skyline of the high-speed elevator test tower has the potential to become an iconic regional landscape. "H1 TOWER" highlights its landmark by combining the planning layout of the central axis in the plant. Meanwhile, based on the principles of productivity, structural rationality, and construction economy, the rhythmic volume turns are formed by the cross-shaped building outline without using secondary skin construction, and the longitudinal fa?ade composition is strengthened by the wind cavities and glass curtain walls for lighting the operation spaces on each floor.(4) The transition from the "mechanical" scale to the "human" scale is the key to the humanized design of industrial buildings. Through the groove design of the exterior wall formwork of the reinforced concrete cylinder structure, "H1 TOWER" integrates the structure and decoration to subdivide the huge wall vertically. This enriches the expression of the fa?ade and strengthens the expression of the elevator’s longitudinal speed in the appearance of the test tower. The four wings of the cross-shaped plane divide the flow of test equipment and visitors while enhancing the visitors’ experience of the urban landscape in four directions. In the face of these new attributes of contemporary industrial buildings, all professional teams need to work together to consider them as a whole in the design process. The design idea of "multi-scale composite" and "multidisciplinary collaboration" will be the key to expanding the dimensions of industrial building design and integrating engineering technology with urban humanities.
