【Abstract】 The rarely known Wanli block-printed edition of Flower Varieties,which is in the collection of the Japanese cabinet library,is the only of its kind in the world.In terms of style and content,the book is unique among ancient flower works.On the basis of previous treatises on flowers,the book takes anthropomorphic flower characters as the yardstick to comprehensively and meticulously classify all kinds of flowers.It reflects the author’s unique concept of flower characters as well as their symbolic significance and marks the new height of the flower appreciation culture in the Ming Dynasty.The tendency to hold elegance in high regard while frowning upon "vulgarity" echoes the elegant culture in the late Ming Dynasty.This book holds an important position in the history of ancient Chinese flower culture.Besides,it contains detailed records of flower varieties and cultivation techniques,so it is also valuable for research on the history of flowers and horticulture.更多还原
