【Abstract】 Helga, the mulatto character portrayed by Nella Larsen in her Quicksand has always been interpreted in the circle of literary criticism as "a tragic mulatto" who has a dual personality and confused racial ethic. However, from the perspective of Deleuze and Guattari’s nomadic theory, Helga’s biracial identity as a mulatto is the transcendence of racist coding. Her constant spatial displacements are the nomadic movements of thorough deterritorialization. Her stammer and silence mark the destruction and subversion of the whites’ power discourse that defines her.
