“Meaning of Foods” in the Historical Narration of Chinese and Russian Contemporary Novels
【Abstract】 In many contemporary Chinese and Russian novels,"eating"or "food"is often used as a representative of meticulous description and profound metaphor. It is used to show the environment of the time and directly reveal the weakness of human nature. First of all, foods are the most important needs for human survival, compared to spiritual requirement,it can reflect more individual survival predicament and its historical causes. Secondly, the spiritual difficulties of all individuals are hidden in and precious in the "eating". Contemporary novels generally use microscopic personal radiation to macroscopic history in order to break the unified narrative under ideological regulation. Lastly, because authors not only have social responsibility but also have to protect their destiny, hidden texts such as "meaning of foods"tend to be more powerful than straightforward criticism. The use of these stylistic rhetoric is actually an attempt by the author to try to get out of the historical critical dilemma and become more close to reality.
