【Abstract】 Language and culture are interdependent and restricted.Culture is contained in language,and language carries culture.To really master and skillfully use a language,one must fully understand the social and cultural backgrounds implied in the language.It is especially important for the students in science and engineering universities whose second language is English to improve their cultural literacy and strengthen their general education of social and cultural knowledge in English-speaking countries.In this way,students develop the ability of learning English as well as their majors while understanding society and culture of English-speaking countries.In addition,what they obtain is not only language knowledge and skills,but also flexible ways of thinking and social adaptability,which is very beneficial and very necessary to broaden their global horizon and foster their cross-cultural communication ability.更多还原
