【Abstract】 Light in August,one of William Faulkner’s works,had a profound thought connotation,which expressed several themes,such as racial problems,the bad influence of Puritanism,the conflicts between people and themselves and the whole society. The most important theme presented modern humans’ intangible and unclear self- identity,which led to the main characters’ tragedies of life,such as Joe Christmas,Hightower,Joanna Bertain.
