【Abstract】 The Chinese new literature occurring in the context of the May 4 Movement carries a conscious and heavy mission of enlightenment and moral ideals. Among the new writers, there were independent thinkers who adhered to enlightenment, radical thinkers who called for democracy, left-wing scholars who praised the revolutionary ideals, free writers who looked upon human nature as a temple, but without exception, they began with ideals and ended in tragedy.
