【Abstract】 The Westernization Movement in the Qing Dynasty aimed to strengthen the nation,defeat the enemies,thus to consolidate the empire through introducing the advanced western science and technology into China.Its success relied largely on enabling Chinese students to master foreign languages.As a result,China’s modern foreign language education began.This article intends to investigate the foreign language education planning during the Westernization Movement with reference to the establishment of foreign language schools,selection of the foreign languages being studied,curricula,etc.,to discuss some gains and losses,and to seek enlightenment for nowadays foreign language education.更多还原
