【Abstract】 This paper argues that the relative scantiness of college teachers engaged in undergraduate education in China results in deterioration of the quality of undergraduate education. Based on the analysis of the causes, the author holds that such relationships as between quantity and quality, between research and teaching, and between social service and undergraduate education, should be properly dealt with.
