【Abstract】 Surfactants were widely used to remediate contamination due to its amphiphilic structure as hydrophile and hydrophobe groups. The application of surfactants in removal of heavy metals from contaminated environment was introduced, with focus on discussion of surfactant-based techniques involving liquid membrane separation, micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration, metal-absorbing, modified-sorption, ex-situ soil flushing and enhanced phytoextraction.
