【Abstract】 To learn about the attitudes and cognitions of Chinese medical students towards the "Global Minimum Essential Requirements (GMER) in Medical Education" newly initiated by Institute for International Medical Education (IIME), so as to facilitate the implementation of GMER in leading medical schools in China, matriculating students in 2001 and graduating students in 2002 of Huaxi School of Medicine, Sichuan University were administered by using questionnaires. Results showed the majority of both matriculating and graduating students considered the 7 domains of GMER important or very important, and the last domain was "Population Health and Health Systems" in term of the rank of importance. The importance of GMER was commonly recognized by medical students, but the recognition of importance of "Population Health and Health Systems" should be further strengthened.
