【Abstract】 As important part of pillared interlayered clays (Abbr. PILCs), the pillar is the main content and the most active object in research of PILCs, by which the pore structure and properties of PILCs can be tuned to meet many kinds of final applications, such as catalysts and adsorbents. The paper reviews the progress in the research field of pillaring species. The pillars can be classified into three categories:inorganic, organic and inoganicorganic pillars.
