【Abstract】 According to Ariel’s Accessibility Theory, each referring expression bears a specific degree of activation in the memory indicating how accessible the intended referent is. Generally speaking, each form of referring expression has its own regular distributional pattern in discourse. Based on the examination of the actual discourses, this thesis discusses the comparison and contrast regarding the degree of accessibility signaled by the form of referring expression in English and Chinese discourse.更多还原
