【Abstract】 This paper is a sociolinguistic study of the fictive use of kinship terms in modern Chinese, Tianjin dialect in particular. Adopting a social network informant sampling approach, a small scale questionnaire survey is conducted in two organizations in Tianjin about the use of address forms in eighteen situations involving acquaintances or strangers with no blood relationship or affinity with the addresser. Based on the data gained, explorations are made of the primary social relationship of solidarity and power, or intimacy and status involved in this usage, its social variation in different age, sex and occupational groups, and its changing tendency in present Chinese society. Simultaneously, testifying to the feasibility of employing Chinese organizations rather than residential communities as the research unit in social network study, this research is also a tentative probe for a practical and efficient informant sampling method for sociolinguistic surveys in present Chinese cities.更多还原
