【Abstract】 The Character "lu" （鲁） picks the form of "yu" （鱼） Therefore, its meaning should show some relationship with that of "yu". However, its erroneous explanations by some predecessors have been widely spread. Consulting ancient inscriptions such as the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells of the Shang Dynasty and the inscriptions on ancient bronze objects, it can be assured that the form of "lu" follows those of"yu" and "kou"(口), and the fish (yu,鱼) can also make a sound. The original meaning of lu is "delicious (to the taste)", which extends to the meanings of "good" and "beautiful", and further extends to the meaning of "big" and so forth.
