【Abstract】 Though the United States of America has been cultur ally heterogeneous since prior to statehood, it took the Great Civil Rights Move ment of the 1960s to give rise to broader social and political pluralism. The An glo Protestant roots of American education had produced a decentralized school system where inequality based on income and race was institutionalized. Conseque ntly, the recent multicultural education movement is an attempt to change the st r ucture of all educational institutions and not simply the classroom. The goal is for male, female, exceptional students, and students who are members of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural groups and sexual orientations to have an equal chance to achieve academically in school. With the influx of new immigrants, language diversity and bilingual education have become an urgent and complex component of the multicultural education movement.更多还原
