【Abstract】 This paper briefly introduces the concept of genre and the characteristics of genre analysis, the study and teaching value, especially six patterns of discourse development. Genre analysis stresses the communicative purpose of discourse and its macrostructure, which will help students to improve their abilities of reading、 writing and speaking.
