【Abstract】 On the basis of the concept and the theory of generalized fail-safe systems, a new theory of extendedfail-safe systems is proposed. Definitions of basic properties, modular structures and connection conditions of differ-ent modules for extended fail-safe systems are presented. A basic extended fail-safe circuit is composed of a basicfunctional module and an error-detecting translator. Several properties to characterize this kind of circuits are defined.The interconnection conditions, which basic functional modules and error-detecting translators must satisfy to con-struct basic circuits with different extended fail-safe properties, are proved.
