【Abstract】 It is studied on the microstructures and mechanical properties of short aluminafiber reinforced aluminum alloy, which is fabricated by PM method, and heat-treated. Theelastic limit,yield strength and elastic modulus of the compcoite materials are obviouslyhigher than those of the commercial alloy, but the fracture ductility is reduced. After hot-compcoed and extruded, the fibers in the materials are seriously damaged, and in somebroken fibers the rcaction of silica and magnesium in the matrix has occured. As a resultthe mullite structure of alumina fiber is destroyed, and the reinforcing effects have beenweakened.
