【Abstract】 The tungstogallic heteropolyanions trisubstituted with transition metal cobalt and ferrum GaW9Z3 (Z=Co ̄(2+),Fe ̄(3+)) have been incorporated into the interlayer of ZnAl-NO3 type anion clay by means of hydrothermal ion-exchange for the first time in this paper. The layered microporous materials were characterized by XRD,IR,elementary analysis and DTA. Powder X-ray diffraction shows that the aion clay precursor possesses a regular layered structure and a good crystallinity,a nd the pillared derivatives are provided with gallery heights of 0.99±0.01 nm,IR spectra exhibit that the vibration frequencies of heteropolyanions existing in the layered regions of anion clay were similar to those of the authentic heteropoly salts,so we can draw the conclusion that Keggin structure of the gallery heteropolyanions is maintained. Besides,the characteristic peak of at 1384 cm ̄(-1)disappeared,it indicated the intercalation reactions carried out completely.This conclusion is identical with that of XRD and elementary analysis. DTA illustrated that the stability order is:ZnAl-GaW9Fe3>ZnAl-GaW9Co3>GaW9Fe3>GaW9Co3>Znal-NO3.Catalytical tests exhibit that the intercalated derivatives have higher catalytic activity and very high selectivity for esterification reaction of phthalic anhydride with 2-ethyl hexanol.
