【Abstract】 Hexadecylketene dimer, an oustanding member of the AKD group, has been kaown and used as a sizing agent since more than 30 years ago. Hexadecylketene dimer is added to paper stock under neutral or alkaline medium to achieve its sizing effect. Employment of such a sizing agent would also bring about increases in paper strength and permanency. A practical method for the synthesis of hexadecylke-tene dimer is pressented in this paper. The reaction involves the dehydrochlorination of stearoyl chloride by triethylamine in an inert solvent such as benzene. Stearoyl chloride may be prepared by treating ste-aric acid with thionyl chloride. Up to 80.16% of stearoyl chloride yield may thus be obtained. The stearoyl chloride thus prepared possesses a b.p. 184-186℃/3-5 mmHg. ,and nD25 1.4520. It is claimed that 88.82% hexadecylketene dimer of m.p. 62-63℃ can he obtained.更多还原
