【Abstract】 Pre-operative echocardiographic changes and the degree of valvular calcification found during operation were compared in 20 patients un- dergoing mitral surgery.The degree of calcification could be reflected by the amount and denseness of mitral echoes.There was a marked correlation between the pre-operative echocardiographic grading of calcification and its actual severity found during operation.According to experience from these 20 cases,it is proposed that patients with no calcification or only a mild degree of it by echocardiographic examina- tion are suitable for closed mitral commissurotomy.Those with severe degree of calcification may undergo mitral commissurotomy under direct vision. Valve replacement should be considered in those with accompany- ing mitral regurgitation and a grade Ⅲ to Ⅳ cardiac function.In short,echocardiogram is fairly accurate for the detection of the de- gree in pre-operative evaluation of mitral valvular calcification,and can be used as a rather reliable guide for selecting the type of oper- ation.更多还原
