【Abstract】 The fundamental state exist of a substance in the state in a single phase, which can be treated as a function, may be called "phase function." From the geometrical representation of the phase function, it is pointed out that the thermodynamic phase equilibrium diagram is in essence a projection diagram of phase function. In this article, I put forward a "cover principle" and make an analysis about the formation and also the criterion of different regions in phase diagram,such as the single-phase region, the two-phase region and the region in which the phase is uncertain.
