【Abstract】 The family educational investment is the direct reason for influencing the children’s educational attainment. The family educational investment in children with different genders is different, which is the important mechanism causing gender differences in education. The previous studies on educational investment mainly explore the differences among families, and seldom focus on the differences among children with different genders within the same family. Using the data from“China Family Panel Studies”between 2010 to 2018,this article adopts the fixed-effect model, and tries to analyze the gender differences in educational investment among multiple-children families, and the heterogeneity across different families. According to the findings, regarding the families with rural household registration, they significantly prefer boys in educational resources distributions; regarding the families with urban household registration, there is no gender difference in educational resources distribution among the families, the girls from families with higher social-economic status even receive more educational investment; regarding the gender difference in education investment among families with rural household registration, there exists heterogeneity, the son preference most likely occurs in families with lower socio-economic status and more traditional gender concept. Hence, with the improvement of family economic level and the equalization of gender concept, the gender difference in educational investment would gradually decrease.
