Abolishing Prostitution Movement and Prostitute Narrative’s Satirization of Reality:A Study of Literary Narrative about Prostitution in the 1930s
【Abstract】 In the early days of the Nanjing government, the Abolishing Prostitution Movement had two stages, the prohibition of prostitution and the lifting of the prohibition. The Abolishing Prostitution Movement incurred various criticism. This atmosphere permeated the social context for literary narratives about prostitution in the 1930 s. This kind of narrative no longer takes prostitution as an ideological symbol for social reformists. Instead, prostitutes are taken as the protagonists of the narratives which present social oppression and gender enslavement from the perspective of prostitutes. This kind of narrative satirizes the capitalist moral prejudice and political intolerance of the authority who tries to abolish prostitution, and is a narrative that is progressive in nature.
