Great progress has been made in the researches concerning artificial seeds since
the concept was proposed twenty-five years ago. This review focused on the developments of
plant artificial seeds in the past decade, summarized the concept of synthetic seeds, the factors
affecting the somatic embryogenesis, synchronization and desiccation of somatic embryos,
artificial coat, storage and preservation, etc.
