This paper reported our recent work on the somatic embrogenesis in longan. Immature embryos or anthers were used as explants, resulting in stable embryogenic calli, and consistently high frequency of somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration. Then, embrogenic suspensions with strong embryogenetic capacity were established from the embryogenic calli; and somatic embryogensis from single cells and protoplasts was achieved from these suspensions.
