By using selective media,a strain of lactic acid bacteria which is able to degrade cholesterol was isolated from adult feces.The isolate is able to use cholesterol as the sole energy sources for growth.In the fermentation test of 10% skim milk,the isolate was able to ferment and clot the skim milk.In broth culture,the degradation rate of cholesterol by the isolate was 34.6%.The isolate was initially identified as Bifidobacterium sp..
