Mechanism of ionic liquid based dispersive liquid phase microextraction ( ILDLPME) has been investigated. The ILDLPME and organic solvent based dispersive liquid phase microextraction ( OSDLPME) have been critically compared for the determination of free anthraquinones in traditional Chinese medicines.
