Based on field data,the operational aspects and traffic characteristics of the vehicles(such as traffic composition,saturation flow rate,time headway,operating speed)in urban expressway work zones were analyzed.It is suggested that the capacity of urban expressway work zones is between 1500veh/h/ln and 1700veh/h/ln.Simulation models were developed for different work zone configurations on bidirectional 8-lane urban expressway,such as 4-to-1,4-to-2,4-to-3 lane closures.Then the simulated capacity was given r...
