The modes of structural optimum design of plane frames are established based on the component reliability. This makes it possible to do the reliability-based structural optimization and design. In this paper, the reliability index is solved with the JC method, and the constrained variable metric method is used in the optimization. Finally,an example of plane rigid frame is given,and the results demonstrate that the method presented in the paper is effective.
