The paper reports the results of an investigation of the characteristic of combustion pressure oscillation in a D.I.diesel engine and their effect on engine noise. The multi-order modes of different frequencies of combustion pressure oscillation and their superimposition were studied both theoretically and experimentally.The research results show that the engine combustion noise can be reduced by reducing the combustion pressure oscillation in combustion chamber.
