The residual stresses produced in grinding with CBN wheels were comuared systemally and quantitatively with the wearability of the components, The tests have shown that the wearability of a component has a considerable dependcnce on its surface residual stress: when the residual stress on the surface is in a low stress states, the wearability is higher, and too high level of compressive residual stress causes lower wearability while tensile residual stress causes very low wearability.
