The effect of Puccinellia chinampoensis on the physical and chemical character of saline soil in Hexi, Gansu province was studied, The results showed that thd structure, filtration ability, porosity and volume weight of the saline soil changed, after growing alkaline grass for 2~4 years the organic matter of the soil droped slightly. 3~4 year-old alkaline grass ley formed by which bad structure and low soil fertility occured was regarded as a major reason which resulted in low grass yield.
