Biotransformation catalyzed by microbial or free enzymes or animal cells or plant cells is widely used in synthesation of Chinese traditional medicines and the constructional modification of the pre-compounds.But studies on biotransformation of compounds of saponins in Chinese material medica are still in the recognitive stage.This article reviews biotransformation of compounds of saponins in Chinese material medica in details and looks forward to the prospect of its use in the development of new medicine.
