The fruits of Brucea javanica (L) Merr, a common drug in Chinese traditional medicine, was used as an antidysenteric and antimalarial agent, recently it was used for the treatment of certain cancers. Five quassinoids were isolated from the ethanol extract of the fruits. Four of them were identified as brusatol (1), dehydrobruceine B (3), bruceine D (2), bruceine E (4), respectively.
