【Abstract】 American poet Kenneth Rexroth (1905-1982) revered Tu Fu, the 8th-century T’ang Dynasty poet who blended nature, transience, and war into his life’s work. “Tu Fu has been without question the major influence on my own poetry, and I consider him the greatest nonepic, nondramatic poet who ever lived. In some ways he is a better poet than either Shakespeare or Homer. At least he is more natural and intimate.” For fifty years in California, Rexroth’s poetry connected love and war with the absolute, the necessary, and the stunningly beautiful presence of wild nature in our world. As a painter he often paired his poems with Chinese calligraphic designs. As editor and translator, he generously brought many classical Chinese and Japanese poets to American consciousness.更多还原
