Change of Epididymis Function in the Experimental Varicocele Rat
【Abstract】 Objective: To investigate the effect of p53 in the pathophysiology of varicocele. Methods: Experimental left varicocele models of 20 adult male Wister rats were obtained by partial ligation of the left renal vein, including control group (n=9) and experimental group (n=11). The epididymis were collected 28 d after the surgery for detecting p53 expression with immunohistochemical method, the contents of sialic acid by spectrophotometry, and the carnitine content with DTNB. Results: The p53 expression of epididymis epithelium was significantly higher (P<0.025), and the content of sialic acid and carnitine in the epididymis were significantly lower (P<0.05) in experimental group than in control group 28 d after the establishment of the left varicocele models. Conclusion: p53 plays an important role in the reduction of epididymis function in the experimental varicocele rats.
