【Abstract】 Grice thought that communication is influenced by some rules and maxims of conversation. People must obey co-operative principle during the course of conversion. But in fact, people usually disobey the co-operative principle on purpose in the course of conversation. We can get the reason why people disobey the co-operative principle in their utterance from the art of rhetoric. In the rhetorician’s opinion, utterance is nothing but the course of persuasion or self-expression according to the rhetorician’s purpose, trying to make full use of the resources of rhetoric.更多还原
