【Abstract】 Railway construction hadn’t been taken into account in the course of Guangxi’s construction of border defense for a long time, which was certainly linked with the Qing Dynasty’s change of the attitude to it. Planning on railway building indeed originated from the thought of enhancing Guangxi’s border defense. Zhang Mingqi was the first person to realize that railway construction was the way to enhance the border defense in Gunagxi. After investigating comprehensively Guangxi’s strategic border situation, he put forward a plan for the strategic railway transportation network of border defense, and further planned to build Guangxi’s railway systems on the base of the line from Guilin to Nanning which was contained in the former networks.更多还原
