预倾角对超扭曲向列相液晶显示的影响
Effect of Pretilt Angle on Super-twisted Nematic Liquid Crystal Display
【摘要】 超扭曲向列相液晶显示(STN-LCD)在实际应用中经常会出现一种由周期性条纹织构引起的晶畴,这种晶畴引起光散射使显示性能下降。采用4种不同的PI作为超扭曲向列相(STN)液晶盒的取向膜,在相同的条件下用摩擦法取向并制成盒后用偏光显微镜观察,发现不同PI取向的盒其均匀性有显著差异,有的盒中有晶畴出现,有的盒则显示出了良好的均匀性。晶体旋转法测量结果表明,不同PI引起不同的预倾角,取向均匀的盒所用PI产生的预倾角比其他PI产生的预倾角要大3°左右。分析认为,较大的预倾角抑制了晶畴的产生,在合适的d/p值下,预倾角只要达到5°以上时即可以有效地抑制条纹的产生,满足生产要求,为解决STN-LCD存在的晶畴问题提供了依据和方法。
【Abstract】 In practice, the domains occurred by periodic stripes always appear in super-twisted nematic displays. It is undesired result because that stripes arise diffusion and decrease quality of display. Four kinds of different PI are used as rubbing alignment film, and four cells are made by them on the same condition. The polarized optical micrographs of PI are different obviously. Some have small domains, while others is uniform. Pretilts of four PI are measured by the method of crystal rotation.The results indicates the pretilt of uniform cell larger about 3 °than that of the cell existing domains. It proves the pretilt of lager than 5 °will restrain stripes at appropriate d/p. So the problem of the undesired domains of STN-LCD is solved.
