Psychologic Factors and Autonomic Nervous Activity in Patients with Functional Dyspepsia
【Abstract】 Background: Psychologic factors may contribute to the occurrence of functional dyspepsia (FD), but autonomic nervous activity and its relationship with psychologic status in FD patients have not been defined. Aims: To investigate the relationship between psychologic status, autonomic nervous activity and FD. Methods: Symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90) and 24-hour heart rate variability (HRV) analysis were used to evaluate the psychologic status and autonomic nervous activity in 22 FD patients and 20 healthy controls. Results: The scores of most psychologic factors among FD patients were markedly higher than those among the healthy controls (P<0.05). However, no significant statistical difference in autonomic nervous activity was found between the two groups (P>0.05). There had been significant statistical difference in autonomic nervous activity between FD patients with and without somatoform disorder or anxiety (P<0.05). Conclusions: Psychologic distress is closely related with FD, and autonomic nervous dysfunction may be the intermedium between them.
