【Abstract】 With the establishment of the Sharecropping in American South,country stores became an important part of the economic life at the beginning of the Southern transformation.The country stores were almost general stores,and the tremendous majority of visitors and customers were men,who made purchases on credit because of the crop-lien laws.At the turn of the century,pushed by the power from industrialization and the modern consumer ideas,the department stores gradually took an important role in the Southern economic life instead of the country stores.At the same time,women shopped in increasing numbers,cash payments or paying in monthly installments became the main paying ways.With advertisement playing more and more important roles in people’s economic life the southern economic life went toward modernization.更多还原
