【Abstract】 It has become a focused spot to do the research on the two-dimensional (2D) packing problem in recent years and many different methods from different points have been developed .Having studied lots of articles concerning the packing in the homeland and abroad ,this paper makes an empirical investigation of 2D packing problem, which is simply separated into two types, rectangular and irregular parts.
